Explore the night skies in Benson, Arizona

Located less than 50 miles southeast of Tucson via Interstate 10, the small town of Benson, Arizona is big on amenities. One of the highlights of the area is Butterfield RV Resort Observatory. This upscale park has most of the conveniences that RVers expect, including easy access to numerous and interesting attractions.

Benson, Arizona Observatory

One of those attractions is right in the park itself: The Observatory. One recommendation when making reservations to stay at Butterfield is to make a reservation for visiting the observatory, too. There are only a certain number who can attend the nightly viewings and its on a reservation basis. It’s worth the effort, as the resident astronomers provide an excellent overview of the skies, laced with a history and humor, too.

Butterfield RV Resort offers 173 spaces with fully-paved streets that are 28-feet wide. Other amenities include 20/30/50 amp electrical, sewer, central water spigot, restrooms, camp store, pet run, swimming pool, laundry facilities, Wi-Fi, cable with 14 channels available, a rec room, and various activities offered on a regular basis.

Golf San Pedro

There’s also a putting green and two driving cages within the park to get you ready for a visit to nearby San Pedro Golf Course. Owned by the city of Benson, the course is an 18-hole championship track that opened in 2003. The par 72 course features six sets of tee boxes and stretches to 7,313 yards from the tips. San Pedro Golf Course was designed by Mark Rathert and offers a links-style layout on the front nine, winding through mesquite groves along the San Pedro River. The back nine meanders through canyons giving the course a distinct wilderness feel. After golf, don’t miss a visit to the Benson City Grille where they feature a Friday night fish fry and Saturday night prime rib!

Other area attractions include Kartchner Caverns State Park, the Forever Home Donkey Rescue, and the Oasis Sanctuary, a unique avian rescue facility. Click here for more information on Benson, Arizona.
